Is it necessary to e-verify ITR?
ITR-V is a comprehensive summary of the tax return that you file. You can either download it from the Income Tax Department’s official e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department or the Income Tax Department of India sends the ITR-V which helps in validating the legitimacy of your IT Return.

Why is it important to verify your ITR?
It is mandatory to verify your IT Return after completing the e-filing process otherwise, your tax return can be labelled invalid by the Income Tax Department. Earlier, it was mandatory to send a physical copy of the ITR-V, duly signed, to the Income Tax Department within 120 days of e-filing your IT Return. However, now, it is possible to e-verify your Income Tax Return with just a few clicks.
If, for whatever reason, you miss the deadline to submit your ITR-V, i.e. 120 days from the date of filing your Income Tax Return, your IT Return may be considered as null and void. The IT Department might think that you have not filed your tax return and may send you a notice to suggest the same. If that’s the case, then, you will have to file a revised return after which you will have to file ITR-V again within 120 days of filing the revised return.
