
How to get Income Tax Return?
As a citizen of India who has a taxable income, it is important for you to file Income Tax Return. Earlier, the taxpayers could file their Income Tax Return offline, but from 2016 all the taxpayers are supposed to file their ITR online. Follow the steps mentioned-below and get a copy of your Income Tax Return: -

- Visit the Income Tax Department official e-filing portal.
- Login using the user id and password or register, if you haven’t already
- Go to my account
- Click on the view e-file return option
- Click on the Acknowledgement number, that is written in red
- After this, you are supposed use the Income tax calculator to calculate income tax liability and file the return accordingly.
- Click on download option and take a print-out of the same
Well, that’s how a taxpayer can get a copy of his/ her Income Tax Return online in India.

Can a taxpayer file ITR for last three years?
No, it is not possible for a taxpayer to file Income Tax Return for the last three years and adding to this, they cannot claim the tax refund for the last three years, as they have not filed the Income Tax Return. Under certain special situations the taxpayers can visit the Income Tax Department and the request the concerned authorities and get permission for filing the ITR for last three years.

Is it compulsory to file Income Tax Return?
Filing Income Tax Return is mandatory for those who have a taxable income, that is more than the exemption limit for the relevant financial year. If you do not have a taxable income then it is not mandatory for you file Income Tax Return, but it is better if your file Nil return, as it is beneficial in long run.
