ITR-2A Form - Eligibility and Filing Process of Income Tax Return

Defining ITR-2A Form

ITR-2A Form is the newly designed form to file income tax return for the individual or HUFs who earn through salary and multiple house properties. Those who have no earnings from business or profession or capital gains or holds no foreign asset must use this form to file income tax return.

Eligibility to file income tax return with ITR-2A Form

This form is need to be used by the individual or HUFs who have income from the following sources:

  • Salary income, more than one house properties
  • Resident with no foreign assets
  • Must not have any business income or capital gains
  • Long-term capital gains for which security transaction tax is paid can use this form
  • NRIs may use this form at certain conditions

Ineligible to Use ITR-2A Form to File Income Tax Return

The taxpayers who must not use this ITR-2A are the followings:

  • Earnings from capital gains
  • Have professional or business earnings
  • Claims deductions under section 90, 90A and 91
  • Income from foreign assets
  • Have signing authority in foreign account
  • Have income from foreign sources.

The Sections of ITR-2A Form

ITR-2A is divided into two parts and several schedules which requires you to file in various details.

The Parts in ITR-2A with elaborate specifications:

  • Part-A: General identification information and other personal information
  • Part-B-TI: total income calculated
  • Part B-TTI: tax liability on total income calculated
  • Tax Payments: details of advance-tax, tax on self-assessment, TDS on Salaried and non-salaried income

The schedules in ITR-2A with elaborate specifications:

  • Schedule-S: income from Salary calculation
  • Schedule-HP: income from House Property calculation
  • Schedule-OS: income from other sources calculation
  • Schedule-CYLA: details of income after settlement of current year’s loss
  • Schedule-BFLA: details of income after settlement of unabsorbed loss brought forward from last years.
  • Schedule- CFL: details of losses that will carry forward to future years
  • Schedule-VIA: details of deductions calculated from total income under Chapter VIA.
  • Schedule 80G: details of donations eligible for deduction under section 80G
  • Schedule SPI: details of income earned by spouse / minor child / son’s wife or any other person or other family person that is included into your income mentioned in Schedules-HP, CG and OS.
  • Schedule-SI: details of income that is taxable at special rates
  • Schedule-EI: details of income that is not included into total income
  • Schedule-5A: details of apportionment of income between spouses governed by Portuguese Civil Code

Filling the ITR-2A Form

ITR-2A can be filed through paper and online form but there are certain situations when taxpayers compulsorily need to E-file income tax return.

You need to E-file income tax return if:

  • Your total earnings exceed INR 5 lakhs
  • You are requesting a refund
  • You are eligible to get DTAA relief
  • You have income from foreign assets and sources including financial authority in any entity
